Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is basically used to remove infected tissues and bacterias from the canal so that you can get relief from the severe pain. This is done to save a badly infected or decayed tooth. With the introduction to modern treatment methods, the process of the root canal has been simplified and one can expect to get this procedure completed by one or two visits to the dentist.
The treatment is required when the infection reaches deep down inside the teeth. The pulp of the tooth gets infected with bacteria. This can occur due to the untreated cavity and the consequences can be really very harmful, not only for your teeth but for your overall health. This means that in case you are suffering from dental cavities, you should consult your dentist immediately.
The procedure
The root canal treatment procedure basically involves 4 steps:
- Local anesthesia is given to numb the area then a dental dam is placed near the affected tooth so as to keep it clean, dry and ready for treatment.
- Your dentist will use small drills so as to access the pulp, where the infection has spread. The dentist will not only take out the decayed material but will also clean the place to ensure that there are no more bacteria there.
- After the chamber is cleaned thoroughly and then a temporary filling will be placed there. This will be there on your teeth till the time your crown gets prepared.
- You will have to visit the dental clinic once again so that your dentist can fit on the crown.
You will need to take good care of your oral hygiene post the treatment. Visit your dentist frequently to ensure that all the signs of infections are gone. Your dentist might ask you to undergo an X-ray to confirm the same. In addition to this, you should visit your dentist at least twice a year, to ensure your oral health. This is also preventive as in case your teeth have any signs of a cavity, then your dentist can treat accordingly in order to prevent the infection from spreading any further.
With proper care and attention, root canal treatment can help you to get rid of the diseased teeth and give you a better oral condition for the rest of your life.
