Tooth Bonding
If you have decayed, chipped, fractured or discolored teeth, then the process of tooth bonding can prove to be very helpful for you. The bonding material is made up of tooth-colored resin and it is made in a mold so as to fit your teeth properly. The process is called bonding as the resin material gets bonded to the teeth and it can be completed on one visit to your dentist.
This is one of the easiest and affordable cosmetic dentistry procedures. Your dentist will be able to shape and polish the bond like the shape of your natural teeth. It mostly helps in improving the appearance of your teeth. It can also be used to protect the exposed tooth root due to gum recession.
The best thing about the tooth bonding procedure is that it does not need any preparation. You will also not be given anesthesia unless the bonding is used to fill a decayed tooth.
The procedure
The dentist will initially decide the shade of your teeth with the help of a shade card. Next, they will etch the surface of the teeth, so that it will get roughened. Next, they will put on a bonding liquid so that the bond material can adhere to the teeth. Once the teeth are prepared, your dentist will mold the resin to the shape of your teeth. After that, the mold will be hardened with the help of ultraviolet rays. After the material gets hardened, the dentist will further shape and trim it. The whole process usually takes 30 minutes to an hour to get completed.
Remember to avoid tea, coffee, cigarettes, etc. that might cause stain on your teeth.
It is important to remember that the composite resin used in making the bonding is not as hard as natural teeth. Thus, it is important that you avoid chewing on hard substances. Depending on your oral habits, tooth bonding can last up to many years.
Once you have your tooth bonding done, maintain your regular oral hygiene. Also, do not forget to visit your dentist at least twice a year.
